How To Level Up Fast in Shin Megami Tensei IV

Published on August 10th, 2013 by Gervais D.

Shin Megami Tensei IV uses a level system similar to most Nintendo 3DS games. The main character as well as recruited demons have the ability to level up and become stronger. Each time the game’s protagonist levels up, he gains additional max HP and max MP, 5 stat distribution points, and 10 App Points.

This guide teaches you how to level up fast in Shin Megami Tensei IV.

How To Level Up Fast in Shin Megami Tensei IV

Talk EXP Boost – Burroughs App

The Talk EXP Boost app increases the experience points gained through talking with demons. Even if you fail to recruit the demon and they do not fight back, it is possible to gain experience points. The Talk EXP Boost app can be purchased multiple times, offering a higher experience point increase rate.

Example :

  • Talk EXP Boost 1 = 1.2x
  • Talk EXP Boost 2 = 1.4x
  • Talk EXP Boost 3 = 1.6x

Personally, I prefer to gain experience points the old fashion way. I do not use the Scout feature often to talk with demons in the game, therefore, I did not really need the Talk EXP Boost app. Battling with demons is faster for increasing experience than talking with them.

However, if you use the Scout feature often as well as fight demons, with both methods combined, it is possible to gain experience points faster than you would have before.

Go to the newest locations to fight demons

One location might have demons that give you 10 experience points for defeating, while another might have demons that give you 1,000 experience points. The newer areas that you discover as you progress through the game should reveal stronger demons that give you more experience for defeating. Therefore, it is recommended to push on instead of pausing at one location to get to the highest level you think you can achieve.

Skills that increase the experience points gained after battle

There are skills such as ‘Hard Worker’ that allows the user to obtain more experience points after battle. I assume it gives the user additional experience points because when I used it, the user received the highest experience points number.

Note: The ‘Hard Worker’ skill occupies one skill slot and will be activated after battle.

Demon Fusing

You can’t rely on demon fusing alone to level up quickly in Shin Megami Tensei IV, however, it does help. It’s one of the ways to get additional experience points. Therefore, it is recommended to fuse any demons that are on your delete list, before deleting them.

Fusion EXP Boost – Burroughs App

Another Burroughs app that allows you to get additional experience points is the Fusion EXP Boost app. This app increases the experience points you and your demons gain after successfully fusing demons. The Fusion EXP Boost app can be purchased multiple times.

Example :

  • Fusion EXP Boost 1 = 1.2x
  • Fusion EXP Boost 2 = 1.5x

Note: The more you buy the Fusion EXP Boost app, the more experience points you get for demon fusions. Let’s not forget that the app’s price increases with every purchase.

Complete Quests

Completing quests give you experience points. Quests that can be accepted multiple times also give you experience points. If you’re not patient, I think there are downloadable content (additional quests) available to purchase that helps you level up faster in the game.

There are Demon Domains where defeating the powerful demon give you a small amount of experience points, however, the relic reward can be turned in to complete a quest. These quests normally give a generous amount of experience points.
