The Mario vs. Donkey Kong series continues in its latest instalment. Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a unique puzzle game that involves setting up tiles, springs, pipes and much more to guide Mario minis through levels.

There are two different kinds of levels. Single-door mode is when you try to get all the minis to a door. Multi-door mode is where you get each mini to its own door. Both modes are fun and easy to pick up on.

The graphics are pretty good. The toy feel is pretty nice and the backgrounds are decent. There are also tons of tiles depending on where you are. There are many different pipe graphics and rails. It’s not that game where you just stare at the graphics though.

The music is interesting, and changes between worlds. There’s music for when you’re setting up stuff and music when a mini marches. The sound effects are pretty good, but there’s not too much in the game. The music could have been better, but it was decent.

The menus were simple. The starting menu included three options plus an unlockable option. Story mode, Workshop, and Community. Story mode includes the main story: Donkey Kong steals Pauline and Mario uses minis to save her (even though he could do it himself….); Workshop is your level builder, where you can create levels and share them over the internet. Community is where players test other peoples levels and tip stars if they like those levels.

Conclusion:

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping stars is a pretty good game. It has good gameplay, decent music, great graphics, and decent menus. It’s a game that never ends with creating levels and testing other people’s levels. The game is quite fun, but challenging and comes at a pretty good price. If you’re a puzzle lover, this is a must-have.
